who's who

Guernsey International Business Association:

Here’s a little bit more background about the people involved in putting Futures together.

The Guernsey international Business Association (GIBA) represents all the different sectors that make up the finance industry.

It represents the common interests of the finance industry and provides a forum for the member associations to consider issues of importance to the industry.

GIBA has a governing council which has representatives from all sectors and meets on a monthly basis. There are sub-committees and working groups one of which is concerned with how to show the range of careers available in the finance industry. That’s where the Futures project comes in.

We hope that by commissioning the CD-Rom and providing clear information on the website we have given you a good idea of what’s out there and how it can help you when considering career opportunities.

We look forward to welcoming you into an industry which, with your help, will continue to be a vital part of Guernsey’s thriving community.

Chairman of GIBA

Peter Niven, Chief Executive of GuernseyFinance

"Guernsey's thriving finance industry, as the major component of the Island's economy, offers a wide range of challenging and rewarding career paths across a broad spectrum of financial services. The opportunities for local entrants within the industry are enormous, with excellent long-term career prospects. These are important not only for local employment but also to continue Guernsey's tradition of excellence in customer service and professional expertise, which is a major building block in promoting the industry internationally."

Professor Richard Condor, Chief Executive of Guernsey
Training Agency

"A key objective for the Guernsey Training Agency is to support the development of the Island's finance industry through the procurement and facilitation of high quality, advanced training programmes. All members of the finance sector are encouraged to develop their careers through access to some of the most sophisticated and advanced training programmes available. These programmes range from Masters Degrees or professional qualifications all the way through to one day courses on such diverse topics as "anti-money laundering", "turning potential into promotion", "taxation" or "presenting yourself positively". In 2005 more than 300 courses were offered, attended by more than 5,000 delegates from all parts of the Island's economic community".

Peter Neville, Director General of Guernsey Financial
Services Commission

"Guernsey's financial sector is one of the most exciting and innovative I have encountered in all my time working in London, Europe and the Far East. It is a vibrant and diverse industry which includes banks, collective investment fund administrators, company administrators, insurers, insurance and investment intermediaries, investment managers, stockbrokers and trust administrators. The Commission has long recognised the importance of qualifications, training and structured career paths in the finance sector. GIBA's work on "Futures" provides valuable information on the opportunities available in the sector and on how people can become part of this growing business and fulfil their potential."
